- Addy Saves the Day: Chapter One: Seeds of Hope (now Chapter Six) includes an opening stating that it is exactly two months after her birthday celebration.
- Changes for Addy: Chapter One: Pieces of a Puzzle (now Chapter Ten) has multiple paragraphs before the original text explaining several events. Sam has a job at a stable for a cab company six days a week for long hours (but always has time to spend with Addy daily) and continues to tell her riddles. Time has passed from summer to fall to winter. Poppa made a trip to the Stevens' Plantation to try and find Uncle Solomon, Aunt Lula, and Esther, but found out they have already left and no one knows where they had gone; after searching several freedmen's camps nearby for a month, he had returned to Philadelphia. Addy continues to write letters weekly to aid societies and freemen's camps to try to find the rest of her family but has received no answers.
