September 3, 2008/ New Stuff Released!
New stuff has been released by American Girl for both Historical Characters and Just Like You dolls, including four brand new dolls and a new Meet Outfit, the Star Hoodie Outfit. At the same time, Just Like You 3, Just Like You 6, and Just Like You 18 have been retired. Mia St. Clair received a new outfit and her whole world collection is now avaliable. Bitty Baby recieved a new Meet Outfit, the Pink Bow Sleeper, as well as several new outfits, and the Bitty Twins received new outfits.

October 4th, 2008/ Kit's Movie on DVD
"Kit Kittredge: An American Girl" will be released on DVD on Oct 29th, 2008, by New Line Cinema. [1]
Oct 6th, 2008/2009 Chrissa and the Archival of Samantha
  • 2009 will bring Chrissa as the Girl of the Year; as of right now there is no information other than a straight to DVD movie called Chrissa Stands Strong [2]. It can be assumed that she will be white, with dark hair and light blue or grey eyes.
  • American Girl has announced that they will "archive" Samantha Parkington's entire collection; she, Nellie O'Malley, and their collections will no longer be available for purchase online, at stores, or through catalogues with the exception of any books. It is unknown when this will begin or take effect. The email from AG is as follows:
Dear Samantha Fan,
We're writing with important news about an American Girl original, Samantha Parkington. As one of her biggest fans, we wanted you to be among the first to know that soon, Samantha's complete collection—including Nellie and her accessories—will be moving into the American Girl Archives.
While Samantha has been one of American Girl's most popular historical characters since her introduction in 1986, we felt the timing was right to preserve her place in American Girl's history, making it possible to introduce new characters and time periods for our customers to enjoy.
Starting today, we're inviting American Girl fans to share their favorite Samantha memories (see below) as a way of commemorating Samantha and the impact she's had on girls for more than 22 years. Whether it's remembering your beloved Samantha doll or an important lesson learned from her books, we want to hear your story.

The American Girl website has placed a page up for discussing memories of Samantha Parkington.[3]; it explicitly says on the site that she will not be available after the holiday season. Several things of Samantha's have become archived already.

November 1st, 2008/ Retirements, Purchase Limits, and Backorders
  • The following items are now retired:
The end is nigh, people! Molly's Beach Chair was also retired. A list of all retirements and backorders can be seen here: [4] (Samantha's Velvet Dress is on backorder til April 2009!) American Girl now restricts all Samantha/Nellie items to three of each item per order maximum.

November 25th, 2008/Samantha Retirements and Backorders
  • Several of Samantha's items are either retired or on back order. Meanwhile, the Silver Belle Outfit is around only while quantities last. It looks like AG is warning us of retirements again.

December 2, 2008/Cyber Monday, Retired and Backordered items, and 400 articles!
  • This Monday was Cyber Monday, with several decent deals on clothing, accessories, books, and items.
  • Several items are on either backorder or have been fully retired [11]. Mia St. Clair is starting to retire as well; it is quite possible that she might sell out fully before the holidays, not unlike Nicki before her. This does not mean that Chrissa will debut early, however.
  • 400 articles!

  • Sam is on major backorder, and Nellie's about gone. I think we can all but call it as over. Alas, poor Samantha. I knew her well, Horatio.... The same can be said of Mia.

  • As Chrissa Maxwell has been somewhat confirmed as the next Girl of the Year, I have gone ahead and started her article. Of course, it will be filled out more on the release date.
December 13, 2008/Licorice and Grand Piano Missing
  • Licorice and the Grand Piano are both missing from the site. However, Licorice is still in the Coconut Carrier Collection.
December 15, 2008/Chrissa's Page Up!
  • Chrissa's page is currently up on the AG website here: [12]. It has a preview of her movie and a reveal-a-day image that will show the doll in her entirety by Dec 31, 2008. I've already decompiled it, so the majority of the image is on Chrissa's article around here, bar the fact that AG has hipped to our stuff and left the last three blocks on. Good times, AG. Good times.
December 18, 2008/USA Today and Chrissa, No More Mia
  • USA Today released an article that gave more information about Chrissa, along with a full image of Chrissa and her two books. [13] We can now see her entire face. Her article has been put in the sidebar for quick access.
  • Mia has sold out as of December 17. *waves bye bye*
Dec 26th, 2008/End of Year Sale, Discount code, and More pictures!
  • Hope you had a happy holiday (or are still having one, as the case may be).
  • American Girl is having an End of Year sale with prices slashed nicely! [14]
  • Til February, the code 153302 from the Kit DVD will take $10 off any $30 or more purchase.
  • A picture has been released of the two companion dolls to Chrissa, Sonali and Gwen. It is unknown if they will be released with Chrissa or later in the year.
Dec 29th, 2008/More Chrissa Information!
More information about Chrissa has come out, thanks to some early catalogues. Firstly, Sonali and Gwen will be avaliable from Chrissa's launch. Secondly, some items in Chrissa's collection will be:

Jan 1, 2009/Welcome, Chrissa!
Welcome, Chrissa Maxwell, the Girl of the Year 2009! Chrissa's new items are already on the site; however, Chrissa's Craft Studio and Chrissa's Swim Team Gear are already back ordered. The DVD is too, but it doesn't officially release until the 6th anyways. There is also two new outfits and an accessory set for Kit Kittredge, a new Just Like You outfit, new items for Bitty Baby and the Bitty Twins, and three new pets! 2009 is starting off well.

Whee! We're up to 500 articles! (in case you're curious which one is #500, it's Jess's Pajamas.) Thanks to all those who have contributed to the A*G Wiki!

The Holiday items for the Bitty Twins, Bitty Baby, and Just Like You lines are starting to disappear if they're not gone already. Also, Molly and Emily are starting to lose their recital stuff.

Not to take from Chrissa's debut, but here's some big news. So there have been rumors in the AG world of a new Jewish Historical from around Samantha's time--and now we have proof! Amazon has put the books up for preorder and so we have titles and a publication date - June 2009.

Ana is quite possibly a friend doll. The author, Jacqueline Dembar Greene, shows a long list of both historical stuff and Jewish stories, so I'll look on the positive side. Rebecca, of course, won't be getting a page without more information confirmed. Patience, grasshoppers.
Edit: Ana is Rebecca's cousin, and they are Russian Jews.

Samantha has officially sold out as of Feb 3, 2009. It does appear the mini dolls will remain. As of today only Nellie's Pajamas (along with girl's sizes), the Wicker Table and Chairs, Samantha's Shoes and Socks, Samantha's Accesories, and the White Party Slippers remain.

Feb 23, 2009/ New Stuff!

New stuff (which was probably in stores already) is out-- a lot of spring clothing, accessories, and the like for Just Like You dolls and new books. Gwen Thompson was also modified a little. Go look!

Due to a rash of one line short articles that don't really contribute anything, there is a new Policy on Article Creation effective immediately.

  • Some images of Rebecca have been circulating; she appears to have dark hair and dark eyes. More details will be posted later.
  • Enter "EASTERSHIP" to get free shipping on any size order until April 5th.
  • Samantha Parkington will be officially archived in May. Very little is left of the collection.

  • Effective immediately, any article that is simply a copy-paste of the website descriptions will be deleted immediately. This is not intended to be a rehash of the website.
  • Also effective immediately, blatantly false information will be deleted and removed from the Wiki.

A mailing of images has given a sneaky peek at Rebecca! It appears that she's going to have lighter hair and eyes than originally expected. But we won't know until the release date on May 31st!
May 8th, 2009/Short Articles - Stop Doing It. No, Really.
Due to people not following the Policy on Article Creation, effective immediately anyone caught in violation of the basic rules on said policy will recieve a one-week ban on the first offense. The second offense will be a full ban. This has become a problem.

News about Rebecca is starting to come out in all kinds of media! She'll be out May 31st, and at that time AG*Wiki articles about her can be improved on or started. However, rules about the Policy on Article Creation will still apply--any articles in violation will get folk one-week bans on the first offense. We're all itching for her and we'll get the articles up, but we gotta do it right.

July 7, 2009/ Happy Anniversary!
Hi all! Wow. The A*G Wiki is now one year old. Started on a sleepy Monday in my apartment, I was just happy to get up articles about all the Historical Characters before bed. In that one year, we've had the release of Chrissa, Gwen, and Sonali; the archival of Samantha and Nellie; four new Just Like you dolls; many updates and new releases; and made over 850 articles and are still going strong. I'm so thankful to all the people who have helped make this one of the fastest growing, most detailed, and most up to date Wikis and American Girl sites out there! Keep up the totally awesome work!

July 17, 2009/Userboxes and McDonalds
  • Please see the new policy on Userboxes. Long story short: Don't make 'em, Don't fake 'em, and don't ask for 'em.
  • Starting next week, McDonalds will be distruibuting American Girl toys in Happy Meals nationwide. It appears to involve paper dolls or some other sort of craft. When we get more news, we'll provide it!
